Tracing Back the Radiance: A Solo Exhibition by Alix Ankele
The National Association of Women Artists, Inc. (NAWA) celebrates its new gallery space in the very heart of Manhattan’s bustling garment district with a luminous inaugural solo show by member artist Alix Ankele.
“Tracing back the radiance” is a phrase used by the founder of the Korean zen tradition, Master Chinul (1158-1210) to describe the subtle process of zen meditation. Where is the radiance of life? In a brilliant sunset? In the moonlight glistening on a wilderness lake or the wholehearted smile breaking across a toddler’s face? We are encouraged to look inward. Perhaps the radiance is not altogether “out there” but is to be found in the wakeful, alive quality of an open mind free of thoughts–our own luminous awareness, our own awakened heart/mind resonating with the vibrancy of life itself.
